DJ Kentaro live session @ Dour Festival

Right after having played an amazing set in front of thousands of exstatic festival goers, and just a few hours before getting in a plane back to Japan, DJ Kentaro came into our Yurt to record the very last session of this Attic Addict’s fourth season. So we logically had to make this the very last season’s episode…
So here it is peeps: DJ Kentaro, playing live, backstage, during the 2010 Dour Festival!
http://www.djkentaro.jp

But even if this is the 25th, and last episode of this fourth season, we are really pleased to announce that Attic Addict will be back for the 2011 Dour Festival! so watch out for the coming line-up ( http://dourfestival.be ) and see you guys in a few months!!!

Vismets live session @ Dour Festival

Vismets are a rising star in the belgian Rock scene. They’ve been (and are still) touring a lot across France and Belgium, and have witnessed a growing interest for their explosive and solid live performances.
This session starts with their incontrovertible single “Wasted Party”, which you can listen to on their album “Guru Voodoo” available on french label Roy Music. Don’t miss that one!

Foreign Beggars live session @ Dour Festival

Critically acclaimed london-based hip hop group Foreign Beggars are well known for their powerful live performances all around the globe. As Orifice Vulgatron, Metropolis and DJ Nonames came in our yurt, it was already late in the night, and as it was the Dour Festival’s last day, we were quite tired, but they definitely made us jump around as soon as they got on stage.
don’t miss their many great releases, including the last one “Beggattron Remixed LP” : www.foreignbeggars.com

Zenzile is the biggest dub music band in France. No wonder we were excited to shoot this session with those incredible musicians… and indeed it was a rapture of groove and intensity. So let’s jump into this transe journey with Zenzile in this great 12 minutes session!
Also, make sure you don’t miss their latest EP “Le Cabinet Du Dr Caligari” as well as their coming Ciné-Concerts!

la DK Danse was one of the first band we recorded during the 2010 Dour Festival. We remember them as great musicians, but also as really nice people too! Enjoy this dreamy, experimental, dub & bassy session!!

Bilal Live Session @ Dour Festival

Bilal from Attic Addict on Vimeo.

Bilal was a really unexpected and good suprise to us. Indeed, most of the bands who played the Attic Addict Sessions during the Dour Festival were invited by us, mostly because we knew and loved already their work. But here, Bilal simply came & asked if he could come to play with his band, so we said yes. But we must admit we didn’t know Bilal and had no idea of what his music was like, at all.
What we witnessed when he and his band (really good musicians as you will see) played was a huge talent for improvisation, a unique and sincere way of making soul / jazz music. We really felt transported during this session, which is the longest, and one of the most intense of this fourth season. So, enjoy watching Bilal making love to soul music!

Otto Von Schirach live indian session @ Dour festival

Otto Von Schirach from Attic Addict on Vimeo.

Otto played his set late that night at the Dour Festival. We got him to come to our Yurt around 4 a.m. as he invited his drummer, who was playing just right after him, as well as his VJ, from whom we got the amazing mind fucking animations that you will see appear in the video directed by Flashbacker. We should also mention our sound engineer Johnny Kasparov who did a really good job mixing all of these sounds coming from outer space.
Enjoy this unique live video of Otto Von Schirach, who we now call “the Indian” …
…and don’t forget to check OttoVonSchirach.com! Cheers to the triangle family!

Steve Von Till live session @ Dour festival

Steve Von Till from Attic Addict on Vimeo.

Steve Von Till, from Harvestman and Neurosis, is known for his huge sound. He needed almost one hour to set up by himself his many guitar amps, and FX, but once he was ready, we got a 1000W in our faces indeed. No words to describe this ethereal hypnotic session.
We hope you’ll enjoy getting these 1000W in your face!

Sharko live session at Dour Festival

Sharko from Attic Addict on Vimeo.

It was late at night that the Sharko band members joined us in the yurt, long after having played their concert. We don’t have words to describe how we felt at the end of the session shooting, so you’d better watch this video, which you could call “black session” if you want.
Don’t forget to check the website of one of the best belgian indie-rock band in Belgium http://www.sharko.be/

Fulgeance

Fulgeance from Attic Addict on Vimeo.

This is right after playing as “Peter Digital Orchestra” during the 2010 Dour Festival that we met Fulgeance in the crowd, who had decided to stay a few more days to attend the Festival as a simple festival-goer. Being big fans of his future beats / club funk, we naturally asked him to come in the Yurt to do a session, but as Fulgeance.
More than being a great producer, Fulgeance is also amazing live. His showman and musician skills are gaining a worldwide recognition: watching this session will help you discover why…
He has just released a brand new EP, “Glamoure” on french label Musique Large, and there’s gonna be a huge party at the Social Club this 2nd of November to celebrate this great release. Don’t miss these!

Mayer Hawthorne

Mayer Hawthorne from Attic Addict on Vimeo also available on Youtube.

Saturday, July the 17th, 1pm at 2010 Dour Festival. We were nervously waiting for Mayer Hawthorne and the County, hoping that they could make it, coming from the airport right after a big flight delay. And they came to the yurt just right on time, under the sunny blue belgian sky… All the musicians plugged their instruments and got ready in no time, and played one of the most solid and lively session we recorded that day.

Enjoy this unique live session of Mayer Hawthorne & the County playing the Electric Light Orchestra’s legendary song “Mr. Blue Sky” (that most of french people might recognize because of the SFR TV ad)
And if you haven’t yet, check Mayer’s myspace, facebook or twitter page, and listen to the amazing album “A Strange Arrangement” that Mayer, aka “the heart of soul” released on Stones Throw!

Curry & Coco

Curry & Coco from Attic Addict also available on Youtube

Remember the time in the late 1970′s when punks traded in their guitars for synths, and re-configured disco as a bastard brother of garage rock? Well you should, especially if you weren’t around for it. And here, now, to recreate the raw excitement and sonic abandon of post-punk’s wildest hour are Thomas Priem and Sylvain Przybylski, the duo known as Curry & Coco.

We caught them right after their show at the Dour Festival, which ended a bit earlier unexpectedly  because Thomas the drummer had broken his drum heads… So when they came into the yurt, they were eager more than ever to finish their gig even more furiously! After watching this session, you’ll understand why Beauvallet likened them to “a blitzkrieg on the dancefloor : two of them, but the noise of the B-52′s bombarding Daft Punk.” …Enjoy!

… don’t forget to check their blog and join them on facebook. And if you haven’t yet, you’ve got to listen to their amazing album “We Are Beauty” produced by David Kosten.

Bacon Caravan Creek

Bacon Bacon Caravan Creek from Attic Addict on Vimeo.

Although Bacon Caravan Creek is not a simple name to remember (well, we did eventually find a mnemonic way to remember it: imagine a man sat in a caravan, eating bacon, and drinking Kriek (a belgian beer…) ) the band has a sound that has no comparison with any other band on the Belgian scene, and this is one of a hell distinctiveness that we invite you to discover on their newly released album “WolfWolfWolfSheepWolf”, or live, at the occasion of one of their numerous coming shows: check their myspace for more, and enjoy this 7th episode of the Attic Addict season four!

The Subways

The Subways from Attic Addict on Vimeo also available on Youtube

Before shooting this video, we must admit that we didn’t know that well The Subways, and so when we saw them playing that day in the yurt, we thought that the guitarist was hurting his strings pretty loudly for a folk band!
Actually, The Subways is not a folk band at all, but a major londonian rock trio!

This improvised acoustic session was the only way for Charlotte and Billy to have enough time to shoot this attic addict session… now you can enjoy this exclusive version of their single “Oh Yeah”!

And don’t forget to check the “full version” of the band on their myspace

Frank Shinobi

Frank Shinobi from Attic Addict

Frank Shinobi was to us a big discovery during this 2010 Dour Festival. They play a heavy and innovative math-rock, which they describe as “a perfect mix between At the Drive-in, Foals, 31 Knots and The Redneck Manifesto”. Well, this is no misleading speech at all: they are indeed a hardened math-rock band and if you happen to listen to their new album, you’ll make for sure a breakthrough!
Enjoy this session, and don’t forget to check their myspace and website!

My Little Cheap Dictaphone

My Little Cheap Dictaphone from Attic Addict

While Redboy’s project is a musical universe made of fairy tale pop and orchestral arrangements, and which is played on stage with a meticulous scenography, you’ll discover in this very video My Little Cheap Dictaphone being in the altogether: simple, poetic, haunted.

The band has just released an ambitious concept album: “The Tragic Tale of a Genius”, and is currently on tour through Belgium and France. Cheers to them!

Daedelus

Daedelus (recorded live in the Attic Addict Yurt during the Dour Festival)

Having Sir Alfred Darlington doing a live session into our Yurt was really a big deal to us. We were and we still are big fans of Daedelus’ music, so having him recording live this special session just in front of us was a child’s dream coming true. His attitude was simple and elegant at the same time, and as we were welcoming him, we couldn’t help thinking that the greatest secret of talented artists is their humility…

But aside from than the man, we definitely should talk about his Music… The two latest LPs he’s just released are really damn fabulous, check “Love To Make Music To” but also “Righteous Fists of Harmony“. We also have a thing for “Denies the Day’s Demise” released a bit earlier, but Daedelus’ discography and his other projects (check “the Long Lost”) are too immense to list them all. See http://daedelusmusic.com

We will never be able to grasp all the complexity and richness of both the man and the music, but we hope that sharing with you these 16 minutes of musical bliss will convert you, if you’re not already!

Driving Dead Girl

Watch Driving Dead Girl (recorded during the Dour Festival) also on Vimeo.

The Driving Dead Girl is a belgian rock band composed of Dim Wild, Ronald Dondez, Dan Diaz and Vincenzo Capizzi. We must admit they were the only band wishing to bring their own drumset into our yurt, but it was definitely worth it. What they showed us during their forceful live performance is that nowadays rock can still be definitely fun, though & dirty!

Their new album “Don’t give a damn about bad reputation” will be available from September 20th: http://myspace.com/drivingdeadgirl

enjoy!
