Attic Addict / Season 6

Kunz @ Dour Festival 2011

During the last night of the festival (when you don’t have all your mind anymore), while we were about to pack everything cause we thought we wouldn’t record any band anymore, a head popped up in the yourt.
He had a quick overlook on the equipement we had and then we started to stare at each other…
We knew you met before….
It was Louis Jucker, who we recorded in our early years with his band Julie Rocks You

As soon as we started to remember these good old memories, we went to pick up his drummer Luc Hess, and some friends as well to feature as guest :

Martin Driscoll playing the bass and Jona Nido from The Ocean playing the guitar.

We couldn’t imagine a better session to finish these four days of total crazyness!

Romano Nervoso @ Dour Festival 2011

Romano Nervoso are told to be the best Spaghetti belgian rock band. Well, if spaghetti it is, why not.
I do enjoy a bit a bolognese in my rock n’ roll anyway!

Ultraphallus @ Dour Festival 2011

Let us now introduce one of my favourite ! As powerfull as an Ultraphallus could be in a sex war, warmy, moisty, but also deep and full of passion. For sure, these Belgian guys are definitly not wankers ! So let’s get excited!

Check out their myspace and website.

Uncommonmenfrommars@ Dour Festival 2011

Uncommonmenfrommars represent a lot of things for me. It makes me think about all this time I spent on my skateboard, trying to make some cool tricks … I was 15.
I was so happy to record this band !
But the shooting was not easy. They play too loud ! Our Hard drive was suffering … and the video recording should stop every 2 minutes.
Finally, after 4 missed shots, our video engineer put a pillow under the video laptop. And Uncommonmenfrommars played as loud as they’re used to.

Another Belgian Band we recorded on last session at Dour Festival : YEW

They’re described as a folk-rock band, and they were 7 to play under the Yurt.
Just watch the video to see how they enjoy playing together !
Beautifull energy and vibrations from these guys…

Enjoy !

Mahala Raï Banda @ Dour Festival 2011

When we proposed Mahala Raï Banda if they wanted to play in the yurt,
we had one problem : none of them spoke English, Flemish or French !
We finally found their manager.
After two or three words in romanian, the 11 musicians of the orchestra
walked joyfully to the yurt.

It was kind of a technical challenge for our sound guys,
but the band was so easy going that everything went fine !

Mahala Raï Banda are represented by Crammed Discs
Check their myspace and enjoy !!!

Their music between The Notwist and Pinback is especially recommended
for those mornings when you have all the time you want to get out from bed !

When Attic Addict first came at Dour Festival in 2010,
We recorded lots of very good belgian rock bands.
Have a look on the Vismets, or Frank Shinobi, for example…

Here is one of Dour’s 2011 vintage : El National Quarterback, from Liège, Belgium !
Follow them on Facebook and Myspace

Stupeflip @ Dour Festival 2011

Enjoy this short jam session of Stupeflip !
2 musicians of the band took what they found in the studio, a bass and the drums.
They made kind of a cover of his well know song :”A bas la hiérarchie”.

You can listen to the original song here !
Have a look on his website and facebook !

Systema Solar brought the whole solar system in the yurt late at night…
They were full of energy, will to dance and play music together…
They waked us up very quickly !
You should wake up too, after this video !

So good to share this Shiny session with you.

Enjoy !

Ghostpoet @ Dour Festival 2011

Ghost Poet is a really good “souvenir” of Dour 2011 !
He was a discovery for the european public and his show was amazing.
He was a discovery for us, and he came in the yurt with his faith, his confidence, and a lot of stuff we had to plug to make this session happen !

Check out his Website !

We’ve been following our friends from The Bewitched Hands for a very long time now. Their song “Birds & Drums” was reverberating in the kitchen every sunday morning, while drinking our coffee, at the time we recorded their first Attic Addict session.

Today, we’re really happy and proud that their entering the small club of bands that have been “Attic Addicted” twice, and we’re just looking forward the third time!

The Bewitched Hands will be playing at La Cigale, Paris, on October 21st. Get your tickets to see them!

Jamaica @ Dour Festival (Season 6, Session 8)

Jamaica took the risk of offering something different into our Yurt, far from the heavily xavier de rosnay produced album of theirs, they instead performed something more “unplugged like” of their song “Short & Entertaining”.
Well, short & entertaining it is, isn’t it?!!
Find the one and only Jamaica on facebook!

Tahiti 80 @ Dour Festival 2011 (Season 6, Session 7)

It was a delight to welcome this legendary band in our Yurt. And listen how they perform, the way they play is pure bliss! Perhaps one of the best “sounding” session ever recorded this year at Dour…
Don’t forget to stop by Tahiti 80′s website!

Sinus Georges @ Dour Festival 2011 (Season 6, Session 6)

Misteur Valaire @Dour Festival (Season 6, Session 5)

we will remember Misteur Valaire not only for their music, but also because of the great atmosphere they managed to put in the yurt: they were really happy to record this session, and were very nice and positive people.

this feeling can be relived thanks to this fifth session of our Season at Dour 2011!

the two songs that Misteur Valaire play here are Ave Mucho & Mama Donte.
don’t forget to have a look at their great website where you can easily download all of their releases: http://mv.vu !

Les Hurlements d’Léo @Dour Festival (Season 6, Session 4)

Les Hurlements d’Léo, the much famous french band, stopped by our Yurt to record this session. This committed punk rock band definitely shows us their skills as musicians, performers and songwriters.
Don’t forget to stop by their facebook page or listen to their latest album “Bordel de luxe”, from which they perform the songs “La Haine”, “Ticket pour le Chaos” and “El Fuego” in this very session.

Drums Are For Parades @Dour Festival (Season 6, Session 3)

It was saturday night, and it was raining so much that we were about to stop our shootings for the day, when DAFP came under the yurt. It was risky for sure, but we had been so impressed by the energy of this belgian power trio on stage!
So, ok, let’s have a wet session!
…and then, something surnatural happened: the sound was so loud and the riffs were so fat that even the sky got scarred and….. the rain suddenly stopped.
So let’s now live this experience at home by listening their LP “Master” (2011) or watching one of the loudest Attic Addict session of Dour 2011!

Hoquets @ Dour Festival (Season 6, Session 2)

The three Hoquets players are certainely very bad on ice-skates, but they really do the job on handmade wooden instruments !
Kicking on boxes and saucepans, sliding on a one string instrument that we’ll call….hum….well…”stuff”!

They will tell you about a dwarf called Napoleon ( 1815 ), a cooking recipe ( Couque de Dinant ), and a short description of Charleroi ( Cha Cha Charleroi ). They will make you smile and dance like a « monkey-python » !
Their first album, called « Belgotronics », refers to « Congotronics », a side project of Konono n°1 with Hoquets, Deerhoof, and many more, released by the famous label Crammed Discs.
Let their video show you how joyful and energetic was their performance in the Yurt at Dour Festival !

Check more on Hoquets’ Website and Crammed Discs

Primitiv @ Dour Festival 2011 (Season 6, Session 1)

This summer, while you were laying on a tropical beach, under the sun (or not), our Attic Addict team went for the second time setting his tents in the famous Dour festival!
Here is Primitiv, one of the session we shot during these amazing four days we spent there. This guy was just incredible, when you think about beatboxing, you couldn’t think that it goes that far and in that style! Maybe that’s why he’s the 2009 world online vice champion…. ; ) You should check more on his Myspace!

This first episode of season 6 (already??!!) is also a good moment to explain the directions we took. Before starting a new season, there’s always this time you’re wondering which new things you can bring compared to the previous season… At some point, we tried to catch up with what was happening all around the web and standards new platforms were trying to impose us, this HD apologia as a key point for any production. Today, we think we were wrong, and that Attic Addict is not meant to be shot with Canon 5D MarkII like everybody does. That’s why we came back to our good old recipes, using mostly small shity cameras, and editing all the video live. It might be sometime a bit rough, sometime a bit too much intense, but it’s what we like because it’s alive and it’s matching with the music experience. So we hope you will enjoy this new season!

Thanks for following us! and if you like these videos, feel free to share them!
